J.D. and Kate Blaze didn’t notice Bullet until the commotion started. Watching the man in the duster get up from the floor, Kate gripped J.D.’s arm.

“I see him,” J.D. said.

As the commotion continued, they went around the bar to the back door, past the privy, and continued around front. They followed Bullet and the other two, using pedestrians for cover and stopping at shop windows now and then to keep their distance.

When the trio entered the Silver Bowl, J.D. and Kate retreated to another saloon and ordered drinks.

“Where’s Lion?” Kate said.

“I didn’t hit him that hard.”

“Maybe he’s laid up in his room.”

“Bigger question is, are they laying low here or is this part of their next plan against Pyle?”

Kate shrugged and swallowed her whiskey. “At least we weren’t wrong.”

“Oh, so it’s we now?”

She kicked him in the shin.
